Bill’s 70th Birthday Party with special guest Christopher Martin-Jenkins

Wednesday November 23rd 2011 was the occasion of Bill’s 70th Birthday Party, held in the Redwood Suite at Lovat Fields Village. It was a marvellous day greatly enjoyed by everyone and I’m sure we would all like to thank Bill for arranging it and for inviting us.

The day was notable for the presence of Christopher Martin-Jenkins, past President of the MCC and well-known cricket correspondent and broadcaster, who once again made the two hour journey from Surrey and gave a highly entertaining talk about his time as President of the MCC in 2010/2011, interspersed with many amusing anecdotes, not forgetting his brilliant impressions of John Arlott and Freddie Trueman. Christopher was a great friend of Bill’s for many years and never failed to support him when needed.

Around the walls were displayed many of Bill’s latest pictures and they certainly added many splashes of colour to the decor. The day began with an introduction by Bill talking about how important art is to him, and this was amplified by Ray Bowker as the next speaker. Following CMJ, Nick Freer gave a vote of thanks to CMJ and presented him with a bottle of wine and a framed copy of Bill’s picture of Lord’s Pavilion. We then helped ourselves to a splendid buffet provided by the catering staff.

Bill would like to thank all those who attended and all those who helped to make the day a success, in particular CMJ, Mike Cooper, Ray, Nick, Bill’s carers, Scope, the catering staff and the staff of Lovat Fields Village. A special thanks to those who brought presents for Bill.

We all look forward to Bill’s next celebratory party (75th birthday perhaps?)
